Getting Started with Your Metronome

Using a metronome might seem intimidating at first, but it's actually quite simple. Follow these steps to start improving your timing today:

  • 1. Set your BPM: Start with a slow tempo. 60 or 70 BPM is a great place to begin for most exercises.
  • 2. Choose a Time Signature: If you're playing a standard song, set it to 4/4.
  • 3. Listen First: Before you start playing, listen to the click for a few bars to internalize the pulse.
  • 4. Play with the Click: Try to "bury the click" by playing exactly on top of it so the sound of the metronome seems to disappear.
